The purpose of the Thesaurus is to draw aside the ambiguities of language : it rejects the synonyms to retain only the preferred terms.
Another essential function of a thesaurus is to present relations between concepts.
The descriptor is replaced in its semantic environment :
-relations of equivalence. USE = Use, UF = Use for
-hierarchical relations. BT = Broader Term, NT = Narrower Term.
-associative relations. RT = Related Term
